Resetting the mobile client will also clear any previously downloaded music and application settings.

FAQ:

  1. What is Remix?
mSpot Remix is a leap forward from today's side-loading and mobile media player products. Remix will enable users to move music from their PC to their mobile device using an over-the-air (OTA) data connection. As opposed to other side-loading applications, which typically provide one-time batch transfers from the PC to mobile device, Remix lets user sync their music on an on-demand basis while they are listening to their music.

Using Remix, users will be able to navigate their entire PC-based music library from their mobile device, including songs that aren't yet on their handset. If the user chooses to play a song that isn't on their handset yet, the application will download the song in the background as the user listens to the song. Beyond its downloading capabilities, Remix aims to provide a best-in-class music listening experience with a variety of easy-to-use features for users to explore.

  2. How many pieces are there to Remix?
Remix has three components: (1) a mobile application (2) a PC application and (3) a Web service. The user must install both the PC and Mobile components in order to use the product. The Web service is included by default when the two applications are installed. Remix's Web service will require the user to pair its mobile application with the PC application and will only allow content to be transferred between an established PC-handset pair.

  3. Do I need a memory card to use Remix?
Users must have a memory card (e.g. MicroSD card) with at least 32MB of available space in order to support saving songs to the handset. Users may set limits on how much memory Remix uses, to ensure that there is still plenty of space for their pictures and other files. Once a user's memory card is filled, old music will be removed to make room for new music on a LRU (Least-Recently-Used) basis. Remix will not delete non-Remix files from the memory card.

  4. What audio formats does Remix support?
Remix will be able to import music from a wide range of source formats, including MP3, MP4, AAC, AAC+, WMA and WAV. Remix will not support DRM-protected formats such as M4A due to legal restrictions. When music is transferred to the mobile device, Remix will re-encode the file into a network-friendly bit-rate. It will also select the highest-quality encoding format supported by the target device. Most handsets will receive music as 32 kbps AAC files. Newer handsets will receive music in 32kbps AAC+. The target format is selected automatically by the target handset and does not require any input from the user.

  5. Does Remix support playlists?
Yes, Remix is able to import a user's playlists along with its audio files. It supports playlists created in iTunes, Windows Media Player and WinAmp. Imported playlists will appear under the playlists menu on the mobile client if the user has created playlists using one of these PC applications and has elected to monitor these playlists using the PC client's settings menu. Remix also maintains an “On My Phone” playlist automatically.

  6. How do I sync my metadata and cover art?
Remix reads the metadata contained in the ID3 tag associated with each music file. This metadata is incorporated into Remix's song index, as well as the ID3 tag of the song file synced to the handset. Remix will send cover art along with the music files as it syncs them to the handset when the cover art is embedded into the ID3 tag associated with the song. Some commercial cover art services may not be supported due to legal restrictions placed on the cover art. If you would like your cover art to show up in Remix, the best way to do this is to ensure that a DRM-free copy of the cover art is embedded in the source file's ID3 tag. If you own a digital copy of the cover art, most full-featured ID3 tag editors will be able to embed this into the ID3 tag for you.

  7. Does my PC need to be turned on to use Remix?
In order to fetch songs from your PC, your PC will need to be turned on, connected to the Internet via a broadband connection and running the Remix application in the background. If your PC is not accessible for any reason, Remix will still allow you to play songs that they have already synced to your handset, but you will not be able to sync more songs until your PC is available again.

Remix makes it easy for users to keep their PC connected by starting itself in the background when the user logs into their PC (this feature may be turned off by the user). Remix will re-establish its connection with the server on a regular basis, so it can recover from most temporary disruptions to its Internet connection. Since the PC initiates the connection to the server using a standard HTTP and/or HTTPS connection, Remix works with most proxies, firewalls, routers and gateways.

Users with a dial-up or mobile broadband connection may still be able to use the service, but the experience will degrade at slower connection. An always-on PC connection is highly recommended. Users are advised to disable any power save options on their PC that might close the network connection when the PC is idle.

  8. Can I use Remix on an airplane?
When your handset is set to airplane mode, you will still be able to play all of the files that have been saved to your memory card. You will not be able to download songs from your PC while in airplane mode, as no network connection will be available. Remix will automatically detect when the handset is in airplane mode, but you can also manually set the application to offline mode using the settings menu. Remix maintains a list of songs on the phone to make offline playback easier and automatically skips absent songs when playing playlists in airplane mode.

NOTE: The AT&T Samsung A707 (SYNC) and AT&T Samsung A737 will not support playback while the handset is in airplane mode due to device limitations. Customers with these devices may listen to their music using the handset's native media player while the handset is in airplane mode.
